ROADSIDE VERGES

Notice 2017 No 39
RE-LANDSCAPING OF ROADSIDE VERGES IN THE SUMMERWOOD VILLAGE
Dear Member/s and Residents,
- The Minute of the Annual General Meeting of 12 October 2017 reflects that the Association’s Members took cognisance of Report No. 9 which was circulated to Members along with the Notice of the meeting. The particular report dealt with required amendments to, amongst others, the Association’s Conduct Rules.
- Paragraph 4 of the concerned report referred to the anticipated make-over of roadside verges by adjoining residents as a result of the City’s water restrictions which are in place. The concern existed that vegetation would in the process be removed and replaced with other hard landscaping materials such as stone chips and the like. The Association’s Management Committee resolved that residents are not to be permitted to remove more than 50% of the existing planted material in the process of renovating their roadside verges. This will ensure that the aesthetic appeal created in Summerwood by the expanses of grassed areas and other planted vegetation on the verges is retained.
- The photograph above illustrates an impressive roadside verge which was recently re-landscaped as per the Committee’s directive. In the process the grassed verge was replaced with 50% stone chips whilst the remainder of the area was replanted with water-wise plant material.
- The Management Committee is trusting that Summerwood residents will bear this in mind when planning a make-over of their roadside gardens.
