SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN AND ANIMALS WHEN USING THE STREETS AND PUBLIC OPEN SPACES IN THE SUMMERWOOD VILLAGE

Dear Member/Resident,

1. Members and residents will recall that on 29 September 2016 emphasis was placed upon Summerwood motorists in Notice 2016 No 17 to note that the streets in our village are used to a large degree by pedestrians together with persons on cycles and other mobile equipment. It was also stressed that parents were to please focus the attention of their children to use the roadways with the greatest caution.
2. The Association’s Management Committee recently received representations from a resident who points out that some motor vehicle drivers in Summerwood have very little regard for the children playing on the pavement and the cats in the street. The question is asked whether a part of the Summerwood image is in fact to see children and animals at play. The resident feels so strongly about drawing the attention of motorists to this aspect that the offer has been made to enter into a process of having signage erected along a particular section of Summerwood Way.
3. The Committee is of the view that the problem may be occurring on other roads in the village. The erection of signage would therefore have to be repeated along all the roads and it is doubtful whether the process would ultimately have the desired effect.
4. The Trustees undertook to reiterate the earlier appeal made to motorists at that time, viz. that the onus is upon those behind the steering wheel of a vehicle to be very aware of the children at play in the village and that the roads are to be used with the greatest of care. In a like manner it is also absolutely necessary for the parents to ensure that our children are very aware of behaving correctly when out and about in the Summerwood village.
